Twelve fruit trees are planted on infiltration swales running along contour. Highly functional and ornamental shrubs, herbs, vines and groundcovers are established throughout. These plants are thriving and do not receive irrigation. The swales are in rocky clay soil. Fertility and organic matter increase every year from the biomass produced on site with a minimal amount of inputs brought in from off-site.
The forest garden is an addition to the already plentiful native wild foods- Pecan, Persimmon, Plum and Mulberry. Some of these native trees are grafted with more desirable varieties of fruit and nuts.
